Excerpt: “Senate Republicans defeated an effort Monday to end debate on a bill to promote tourism over a dispute about amendments. The bill, which would create a public-private office to encourage travel to the United States, got 90 votes on a prior cloture vote, and Democratic backers appeared surprised and angry over the 53-37 loss.

“‘This is such a revolting development,’ Senate Majority Leader Reid said. ‘I thought this was going to be a love fest because this bill helps every state in the union.’”
