Travel Promotion Act

Overview
Nearly every developed nation in the world promotes itself as a travel destination.  In fact, many countries spend tens of millions of dollars on such promotion as a way to strengthen their economies and public diplomacy efforts. These countries are competing with the United States for international travelers, yet the U.S. spends almost nothing to keep up. A bill currently being considered by Congress would allow the United States to compete on the global stage for the billions of dollars and immeasurable goodwill that would come with additional international travelers.

The Travel Promotion Act
The Travel Promotion Act of 2007 (S.1661 / H.R. 3232) is currently under consideration in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. This legislation calls for an international travel promotion program that is expected to yield millions of new visitors, $8 billion in additional spending, and $850 million in new federal tax revenue. The bill supports or strengthens all of the security measures currently in place to protect our homeland, and would come all at no cost to the American taxpayer. Over two hundred Representatives and nearly 50 Senators from both parties have cosponsored the bill.
